Swelling the Sacred

The sea is different.
Still beautiful and majestic
Calming and awesome.

As I swim its surface
A ripple opens in the enfolded order.
God meets me there.

The water is powerful and always moving.
I stroke hard, breathing deeply,
Unaware of the risks that surround me.

Dolphin kicking feels natural.
Always breathing and undulating
Leaving space in my mind for God alone.

An unexpected wave, a salty swallow.
An expected God, suffusing a transcendent,
other-worldly love. Simply beyond.

Fatigue and rapture. Surrender and peace.
Touched by a swelling of the sacred.
Never the same again.
